At Home Center Activities List

Room 109 At Home Center Activities For Water Study

 

Dramatic Play

A- Pretend to be a mom/dad/brother/sister. Create a center tag for your character using paper. Draw a picture. Wash clothes. Put the clothes in the dryer.

B- Pretend to be a swimmer. Swim around your living room.

C-Pretend to be a scuba diver. Go scuba diving in your living room while putting an ocean scene in the background on your computer or tablet.

D- Pretend to be a mom/dad/sister/brother. Wash dishes at your kitchen sink.

E- Pretend to be a meteorologist. Create and design a tag on paper. Look outside each day and predict the weather to your family. 

 

Discovery

A- Look out of your window at the sky. Identify what type of clouds you see (stratus, cirrus, cumulus). Draw a picture. Write the cloud word. Bring to school when we return.

B- Take ice out of your freezer/ Investigate ways to make ice melt.

C- Put ice in your freezer. Predict what will happen. Draw a picture.

D- Mix water and soap together in a water bottle. Shake it up. Discuss results with your family. 

E- Find things that float. Put them in the bathtub. Draw a picture of what floats.

F- Look out the window at the weather that you see. Draw a picture. Use inventive spelling to write the words.

 

Blocks

A- Build a swimming pool using shoe boxes. Add dolls for swimmers. Identify the shape of the swimming pool.

B- Build a fish tank using boxes. Count how many boxes you used. Write the number.

C- Build an ocean. Add boats and fish if you have available. Count the fish you added.

 

Toys and Games

A- Create a pattern using dolls. Draw your pattern.

B- Play BINGO with your family using numbers.

C- Play BINGO with your family using letters.

D- Play any board game that you have in your house.

E- Create your own game with your family.

 

Writing Table

A- Practice writing your first and last name each day.

B- Practice reading and writing the following sight words- I, a, the, on, at, our, is,

C- Practice writing all upper and lower case letters.

D- Practice writing numbers 1-20

 

Library

A- Practice reading any books that you have available with your family.

B- Go to youtube.com and type in read aloud books.

C- Some water suggestion books are: The Little Cloud, The Jacket I Wear In The Snow, The Mitten, The Hat, Mrs. Wishy Washy, Weather Stories.

D- Read books related to flowers or gardens. That is our next study. Some examples are: The Tiny Seed, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Red Rose.

E- Draw a picture of your favorite part of each story.

F- Identify sight words in stories.

G- Point to words in stories when reading.

 

Art

A- Create a picture of your family. Label it.

B- Create a picture of your favorite type of cloud. Label it.

C- Create a weather diorama using a shoe box.

D- Create a sock puppet and tell a story.

E- Create artwork relating to flowers. Label it. We will hang it up when we return.

 

Music and Movement

A- Go on youtube.com. Most of our classroom favorites are on there. Some of our water favorites are: The Water Cycle by Mr. Davies, The Water Water Song, The Learning Station Penguin Dance.

B- Youtube.com- Phonics Song- A is for Apple ABC Songs With Sounds For Children

C- Youtube.com- Sing Spell Read and Write Songs

D- Youtube.com- I can count to 100

E- Youtube.com- The Learning Station Songs- We particularly enjoy The Happy Dance and Sparkle.
